After cleaning hundreds of Perth rentals at end of lease, we know exactly what works, what doesn't, and what costs tenants the most money. Here are the most useful tips from people who do this every day.
Work From a Written Checklist
Cleaning from memory means missing things. Always work from a written checklist aligned with the REIWA Property Condition Report. Our complete room-by-room checklist covers every item your property manager will check. Print it and tick off as you go.
Do the Oven First
Apply oven degreaser first and let it dwell while you clean everything else. By the time you come back to it, the product has done the hard work and the grease wipes off more easily. Don't leave the oven to last — it's the most time-consuming task and you don't want to rush it.
Clean Top to Bottom, Back to Front
Start with ceiling fans and light fittings, then work down to skirting boards, then floors. Start at the back of each room and work toward the door. This way, you're never dropping dust onto a surface you've already cleaned.
The Blind Trick
Close venetian blinds all the way in one direction and wipe. Then close them the other way and wipe again. Two passes — both sides of every slat — without having to remove the blinds.
Shower Screen — Work Dry Last
Clean the shower screen with your chosen product, rinse off, then do a final dry wipe and squeegee as the absolute last step in that bathroom. Any moisture left on glass will dry as spots. A dry microfibre cloth and squeegee after everything else in the room is done gives you a streak-free finish for the inspection.
Don't Forget These Commonly Missed Areas
- Inside the dishwasher — filter and spray arms
- Wardrobe tracks at the floor level
- Behind the toilet base
- Under the laundry tub
- Top of the door frames
- Exhaust fan covers in bathrooms
- Skirting boards behind appliances
Take Photos After You Finish
Once the clean is done, take timestamped photos of every room, the oven, the shower screen, the bathrooms, and the garage. These photos are your evidence if a dispute arises. Store them somewhere you can access them quickly — not just on a phone that might be lost or reset.
